Reputation stays with those who build it
Platforms come and go. What people know about you stays.
Trust and reputation stay with those who built them.
Every few years a new platform arrives and promises to change the way we connect. Many disappear, and nearly all of them change their rules sooner or later. Anyone who has built their presence only there knows how fragile it can be.
Reputation is something else. It does not live in a profile or a follower count. It lives in what people say about you when you are not there, and in what they remember of the times they worked with you. It is the sum of many experiences that others have had of you.
This is why it cannot be moved from one platform to another, and it cannot be taken away when a platform closes. It belongs to whoever built it, and to the people who carry it. When a colleague recommends you or a client comes back, that is reputation, and no algorithm controls it.
Building it takes coherence more than visibility. It means doing what you said and treating people the same way, whether they are useful to you or not. Visibility can be bought for a while. Coherence has to be lived, every day.
This does not mean ignoring platforms. They are useful amplifiers, and a good reputation travels faster when it has the right channels. The mistake is confusing the channel with the substance. Followers can be lost overnight. People who trust you stay.
Models will get better and platforms will keep changing. What remains, in the end, is what others have experienced with you. That reputation is yours.
