Where these pieces start
Why I write about people and relationships, and the order these notes will follow.
Every relationship that matters has a center, and that center is a person.
For years I have watched how the people around me work, help each other and sometimes lose touch. At some point I started writing it down, first for myself and then in the form of a short manifesto, which I called Start from the human. These pieces grow out of that text.
The idea is simple. Every relationship that matters has a person at its center, and the tools we use to talk to each other come afterwards. It sounds obvious, yet it is easy to forget when the day is full of messages, notifications and platforms that promise to keep us connected.
The pieces follow the order of the manifesto. The first ones talk about what gives a relationship its value: people, trust built slowly, the stories we share. Then come remembering someone and being there when it counts, which are what give a network of people its strength.
After that I look at tools, from the phone to artificial intelligence, and at where they help and where they get in the way. Then at reputation, which stays with whoever built it, and at the purpose of all this, which is helping people grow stronger through their relationships.
A new piece comes out every two weeks, on a Friday. They are short and can be read in a few minutes. Some come from my own experience, others from conversations with people I have met along the way.
If something here makes you think of someone, write to them. And if you want to tell me what you think, the contact form is at the bottom of every page. I read every message myself.
